In this talk we discsusse the extremal graphs of given maximum degree and diameter, we present the so called the degree-diameter problem, and present some of our results devoted to the construction of large graphs, digraphs and mixed graphs of given degree and diameter. In the unidretced and directed version we will speccialy focuse on vertex-transitive as well Cayley graphs and digraphs of given degree and diameter.
